"An Inconvenient Truth"

I have yet to see “An Inconvenient Truth” mostly because I am sure that it is going to be one of those documentaries much like “Super Size Me” which was both enlightening and stomach turning-I actually became a vegetarian for almost a year until we moved to SA where livestock and produce are treated with more organic and holistic care. I am sure to cry wells of tears upon watching this film. At a very young age my first encounter of the “crying Indian” commercial brought me to tears and ignited the “environmentalist” in me. One thing is positive, both of these films have the potential to completely change your way of thinking. Which at some point we ALL need to do.We watched excerpts from “An Inconvenient Truth” which included a series of natural disasters- a direct result of the warming of the earth (caused by the alarming increase in CO2), Rahsaan passed me a note that read “The planet is trying to get rid of us.” I nodded my head in agreement not fully assessing the volume of that statement. It is true. We are killing this planet in which we live and in return like any natural survival tactic it is doing the same to us.How does this relate to SA? South Africa has implemented specific laws that protect both wildlife and the preservation of the environment. There are additional practices that have been adopted to compliment these efforts applied in businesses, schools and households. Examples of these are:
The use of plastic bags at the grocery are discouraged by charging a minimal fee per bag, a natural forest is considered as any two trees touching branches and is prohibited to be cut or tampered with, recycling is done in regular trash pick ups but there are many designated drop off areas where sorted recyclables can be taken. Foods are maintained naturally which means everything is always fresh! SA cannot ship by any means waste outside of this country and has to deal with it here on the home front which encourages recycling and the use of reusable materials. There is no dumping of waste in ANY river, lake or ocean; this is seriously prohibited as some of these bodies are the main source of water for some households. These and many other practices are used throughout SA making it in the words of MJ “A better place.” Sadly, there is still much to be done on our little ill planet but the Arscotts are trying to do their part!Just some food for thought:2005 was the hottest year on recordIn 2000 It actually rained in Antarctica –this is ABNORMAL.In 6 million years there is more CO2 (greenhouse gases) in the atmosphere than ever before. Basically double of the normal pattern amount.Read more about this post here:www.climatecrisis.netor herewww.environment.co.za
